Ying Yu received her PhD in cognitive psychology in 2020 from The Ohio State University, and now work as a postdoctoral scholar at OSU. The overarching goal of her research program is to understand 1) how 3D shape is represented in human mind, and 2) how it is related to our visual experience of shape. In her PhD research, she investigated stereoscopic shape constancy over changes in viewing distance and other factors. In her current research, she study the perceptual constancy of shape-from-shading over changes in pattern of illumination and surface material. She is also interested in exploring the philosophical implications of her empirical findings and using philosophical questions to motivate her empirical research.
